Wacky Holiday Hop - September
Happy Cat Month
Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present to you my entry into the Wacky Holiday Hop for September. My wacky holiday is Happy Cat Month, established by the CATalyst Council as an annual event to assist in spreading the word about the health, welfare, and value of companion cats. Often, cats are viewed as self-reliant, aloof, and less in need of medical care than dogs. The aim of this event is to counteract these stereotypes and ensure cats are well cared for, enriched, and receive the preventive care they need. The long-term goal of this non-profit, which was founded in 2008 and located in Annapolis MD, USA, is to “connect three distinct groups: Veterinary Medicine, Shelter/Animal Welfare, and related Industry entities such as Foundations and Cat Fanciers, the Media, and commercial companies. By virtue of the open and inclusive structure of the board, these bodies are able to represent a broad range of diverse stakeholders in feline healthcare and welfare. Working together, the Council intends to make a difference in the way the United States experiences and values cats.”
To begin crafting the background of this card, I organized my supplies. I selected a high-quality white cardstock, a large stamp featuring adorable cats, black embossing powder, gold embossing powder, and PrismaColor colored pencils. Then, I applied clear embossing ink to the stamp and pressed it onto the cardstock with even pressure, transferring the image. I apologize for not having more details about the stamp as I've had it for a while and it lacks a label. I covered the image entirely with Ranger's Black Sparkle Embossing Powder, removed excess powder, and used a heat tool to set it. Once the powder cooled, I proceeded to color in the image.
After completing the coloring, I opted for a sentiment from the Taylored Expressions Simple Strips - Meow set (TEBB86). I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of cream cardstock using clear embossing ink, covered it with gold embossing powder, and heat set it. I then trimmed the sentiment to the desired size and attached it to the front of the background panel.
The final step was assembling the components. I resized the background panel and a matching purple mat, adhering them together with double-sided tape. Then, I measured and folded a cream-colored A2 card base and affixed the combined pieces to it, completing the card.
