My Favorite Things Weekly Sketch Challenge
Challenge #661
Good day, fellow crafters. I'm excited to share my entry for this week’s My Favorite Things (MFT) Weekly Sketch Challenge. You can find the inspiration sketch below my entry and the link to the challenge post below the logo above. Whether or not my work inspires you to participate, I sincerely hope you enjoy it
This week we are creating with the design inspiration of the MFTWSC661 layout, pictured on the left. Personally, I have a special fondness for layout challenges because they introduce me to unique design approaches that I might not have considered otherwise. It's quite intriguing how these challenges push me beyond my usual boundaries. In fact, I've begun curating a personal assortment of layouts that catch my eye or those I take part in. This assortment serves as inspiration for my upcoming projects, ensuring that each one carries a touch of innovation sparked by these challenges.
The theme of this card may seem weird to some but the intended recipient has a love of cows that I wanted to leverage for this card so that is what I have done. To create this card I first began with the background panel, which was created by utilizing the left over Distress Oxides from another project that were still in my ink-blending brushes and blending them in a rainbow order. By using the left over ink I was able to not waste supplies and clean out the brushes at the same time so that was a win-win. I next used some black ink and a cow silhouette stamp that I purchased from Hoppy Lobby and stamped the image around the background panel in a random pattern. I then set it aside to dry thoroughly.
The next stage was to create the foreground focal point of the card, the cartoon cow. I did this by using some white cardstock, black ink, Copic Markers, and the My Favorite Things The Whole Herd (BB-127) stamp set, featured right. Once it was colored in I used a circle die to cut out the image per the layout sketch. I then positioned it where I wanted it on the background panel and using a slightly smaller circle die, cut out a window which I then mounted the cow image behind given it a recessed look.
The next step was to trim the background panel to its final dimensions as well as a black mat, minus the center which I cut out for the sentiment, which adds to the visual appeal of the card. I adhered the two together with double-sided tape and then adhered the composite to a pre-cut and folded A2 white card base.
To finish the card off I utilized the black cardstock I removed from the mat, a sentiment from the BB-127 stamp set, clear embossing ink, extra fine embossing powder, a heat tool, and a tag die from Momenta to create the sentiment. To give the card one last pop, I mounted the sentiment onto the card using pop dots.
