I'm super excited to be working alongside these talented crafters to bring you some fun challenges and creative prompts that will spark your imagination. My design goal for this card was to create a masculine birthday card for a family friend whose favorite color is green….just kidding no it's actually blue. Anywho, I have had this idea kicking around in my head for a while now to do a card based on some tile work from a documentary on Morocco. As you can see in the above pic the work done there, mostly by hand, is amazing so I wanted to make something similar.
To get started, I opted for three distinct shades of blue cardstock, ranging from light to dark. Additionally, I included a dark blue glitter cardstock for crafting the sentiment. For this project, I employed the Spellbinders Tile Border cutting die, seen on the left, to precisely cut out the tile pattern from the mid-tone blue cardstock. This step required dedicated repetition to gather enough pieces for covering the card, but the outcome was ultimately quite satisfying. Subsequently, I affixed the tile borders onto the lightest blue cardstock, using Artist-tac adhesive. This choice was based on the simplicity of applying adhesive micro-dots to the tile pattern, which proved easier than using tape or liquid glue.
Once I had all of the tile borders adhered I trimmed the background pattern to its final dimensions as well as the darkest of my chosen blue cardstock for a mat, then adhered them together with some double-sided tape. I then adhered the composite to a pre-cut and folded A2 white card base. The last step to complete the card was to use the Simon Says Stamp Large Fancy Happy Birthday die, featured right, to cut my sentiment from the blue glitter cardstock and adhere it in place.
