Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge

Happy Birthday

Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present to you a creation for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge that I just completed. This week's theme revolves around the sentiment of Happy Birthday. As I was looking to create a birthday card for one of my peers anyway I took this opportunity to develop a design that was gender-neutral but still elegant at the same time. I think I nailed it with this card and I hope you enjoy.

To create the background for this card, I first began with the supplies shown in the gallery below and a piece of white cardstock. The first step involved gently misting the rear of the cardstock with water. This ensured that the embossing folder's pressure would flex the fibers rather than cause them to snap or tear, resulting in a crisp edge. I typically run my cards through the die-cutting machine twice just to be sure I have that sharp edge. The embossing folder I used for this card is called Origami Folds 3D Embossing folder (E3D-035) from Spellbinders. The next step was to remove the embossed cardstock and allow it to dry thoroughly. Once that had occurred, I scooped out a tiny bit of Ranger’s Solar Pastes in Royal Flush, Cross My Heart, and Beluga, and placed it on my glass mat. I then added a little bit of Simon Hurley’s Midnight Snack ink to each in turn and blended them so I had three colors to work with. Next, using an applicator, I carefully added the paste to the background panel until it reached the look you see in the above image. It's fascinating to observe how each paste offers a unique shimmer and shine, even when combined with the same ink. I set the panel aside to allow it to dry

While the drying was occurring, I used the SSS Large Fancy Happy Birthday die, featured right, and some metallic gold cardstock to cut out the sentiment for this card. The shine of the card and the gold sentiment mixed together really have to be seen in person but let me just say they are a breathtaking combination. I also took this time to create an A2 card base in a very light brown color as well as a black mat for visual interest and adhered the two together.

When the Solar Paste was finally dry, I trimmed the background to its final dimensions and then adhered it to the card base. Lastly, to finish off the card I added the golden sentiment trying my best to work around the folds of the embossing folder.
