Altenew Inspiration Challenge

August 2023

Good day, fellow crafters. Today I am delighted to share with you my submission for this month's Altenew Inspiration Challenge. For this edition, we have been provided with a beautiful image featuring an arrangement of blooms, along with an unconventional color palette. While floral challenges often revolve around more traditional shades of reds, yellows, whites, and greens, these particular flowers deviate from the norm. I saw this as an excellent opportunity to embrace the challenge and step away from the usual conventions. I hope you enjoy my submission.

To create the foreground focal image for this card I first began with the Altenew Best Mom stamp set, featured left, as I really liked the look of the included floral arrangement. With that stamp in hand, I aligned it on my Misti stamping tool, added clear embossing ink, and stamped the image onto white card stock. I took care to make sure that I had adequate coverage by re-inking the stamp and then stamping the image again. I next took a silver embossing powder, covered the inked image, and then heat set the powder with my heating tool to create a resist for my next step, adding color.

For this stage, I once again choose to employ the smooshed ink method for creating my own water coloring medium. To do this I smooshed out the colors I needed, in this case, I am lucky that I have the entire suggested pallet of Altenew’s Rocky Shore, Peach Perfect, and Teal Cave onto my glass mat. I then spritzed with just a tiny bit of water and then using my water brush pen, picked up the color and carefully colored in my image. Once the entire image was colored in I set it aside to dry throughly.

To create the background for this card, I choose a neutral gray and a black cardstock to use. I trimmed both colors down to their final dimension and then using the Altenew Doodled Dots Cover Die, featured right, I cut the black cardstock. I next adhered the two pieces together and then adhered the composite piece onto a pre-cut A2 light brown card base.

The next stage was to complete the assembly and add the sentiment. Once the floral element was completely dry, I fussy cut around it and then adhered it directly to the card background. For visual interest, I aligned the floral as far to the left as I could so that it would draw the eye of the view across the card. Lastly, I used the Altenew Bold Greeting die set, featured left, to cut out the sentiment from the same color cardstock as the card base. I then adhered it directly onto the card base
