National Suicide Prevention Week
Time to Heal
Good day, fellow crafters. National Suicide Prevention Week is an important occasion that brings attention to a topic that affects countless lives around the globe. At Forget-Me-Not Card Company, we believe that fostering connections and spreading positivity is at the heart of what we do, and addressing such critical issues aligns with our mission. All this week we are joining with other crafters and cardmakers to create works that will serve to remind the recipient that they are not forgotten or alone. Please feel free to hop along with us on IG using my post as a starter or by finding our works using any of the following hashtags: #stopsuicide #realconvo #realtalk #suicideprevention #itsokaynottobeokay #mentalhealthmatters #selfcare #youarenotalone

For this card, I wanted to reinforce the healing theme and I feel this is pretty much the perfect one. Rainbows have often been seen as a symbol of renewal and the promise of better days ahead. They can represent the idea of healing and the emergence of new opportunities after a challenging period. Just as a rainbow appears after a storm, it signifies that even in difficult times, there is the potential for healing and a fresh start.
To create this card I wanted to really focus on the dichotomy of the rolling grey thunderstorm to that of the rainbow. To do this I began with my white card stock, the Picket Fence Studio After the Storm stamp set (featured left), and Ranger’s Archival Ink in Shadow Grey. I aligned the stamp in my Misti stamping tool, inked up the stamp, and then stamped it onto the paper ensuring even pressure. I usually do this twice to ensure coverage. I next utilized my ink-blending brush to very very lightly blend in some grey all over the card to give that really cruddy and blah kind of day feel to it.
The next step was to add in the opposite of the grey, i.e. all of the bright cheery colors of the rainbow. For this step, I broke open my Nuvo colored pencils and their watercolor pencils. The Midtone set and the Hair and Skin Tones set were used on the two figures holding the umbrellas, while the Brilliantly Vibrant set was used to color in the rainbow, all featured in the image on the right. The shine on the rainbow in person is really amazing, still photos just don’t do it justice.
The last stage was assembly. Again I wanted to really make that color stand out so I elected to trim the background panel to its final dimensions and then mat on grey cardstock with double-sided tape and then mount the composite onto a pre-cut and folded A2 white card base.
