My Favorite Things Weekly Sketch Challenge
Challenge #663
Good day, fellow crafters. I'm excited to share my entry for this week’s My Favorite Things (MFT) Weekly Sketch Challenge. You can find the inspiration sketch below my entry and the link to the challenge post below the logo above. Whether or not my work inspires you to participate, I sincerely hope you enjoy it
This week we are creating with the design inspiration of the My Favorite Things Sketch layout MFTWSC663, pictured on the left. I know I mention it every time I complete a card based on a provided sketch, but I really do love using a layout for inspiration. Sometimes the layout is a quite novel approach that I had not really considered but at other times the layout inspires me to look through my collection of supplies which in turn inspires new approaches for their usages.
This card is a perfect example of the latter point. The layout here is very simple and was very easy to create. The background panel is a white card stock that was trimmed down to size and then adhered to a kraft-colored card base that I chose to help reinforce an earth tone in the design. I then trimmed the mid ground panel out of the same cardstock as the card base and also adhered it into position. This lead me to the foreground elements and this was, at least for me, where the inspiration I had came in to play.
I love to ink blend. I think next to using water colors it is probably my favorite technique. Typically I would ink blend all of my colors very carefully to get just the right hues for my project. However this time, when I was working on this card I came to the realization that the ink blending looked a lot less natural than I wanted my leaves to look. Then it came to me, instead of blending the inks I would just drag the ink pads across my paper instead. This technique turned out fantastic, and when using my leaf dies resulted in a much more naturalistic look to the final product. The particular inks I used were all Distress Oxides in the following colors: Peeled Paint, Burned Sage, Forest Moss, Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, Marmalade, Ripe Persimmon, Crushed Apple and Lumber Jack Plaid. Once I had all of leaves cut, I traced the veins with a black micro pen to add some definition and then arranged and adhered them onto my background panel.
The final touch was to create my sentiment. For this step I employed MFT’s Bitty Thanks Gratitude Stamp set (CS-414), featured right. I stamped my chosen sentiment onto some white cardstock with clear embossing ink and then covered it with WOW! Embossing Powder in the color Chocolate Caramel Peal (WE11R). I then knocked off the excess and heat set the powder with my heat tool. Once it had cooled off I used a sentiment tag from my collections to cut it out, then using a bit of foam tape for added dimension I added the sentiment to the card and called this one complete.
