National Send a Card to a Friend Day is an annual observance celebrated on February 7th. It's a day dedicated to the simple yet powerful act of sending heartfelt messages to friends through cards. Whether it's a handwritten note, a personalized greeting card, or a thoughtful postcard, the intention is to express appreciation, love, or simply to brighten someone's day. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining connections and nurturing friendships, especially in a digital age where face-to-face interactions can sometimes take a backseat. It's a chance to slow down, put pen to paper, and show your friends that you're thinking of them. I hope you enjoy.
I had a few recipients in mind that are very much into the world of Harry Potter when I decided on this design. And while this stamp set appears to be from that world, it is not. I even colored the scarf with Gryffindor House colors just to add a little nod.
To create this card I began with some white cardstock and the left-over inks on my blending brushes from other projects. I gently blended for a light and soft hue to represent an approaching sunset. Next, utilizing multiple stamps from the @heroarts My Monthly Hero set from November 2023, featured left, and some black ink, I stamped my images onto the background panel.
The next step was to add color. For this step, I turned to my Copic markers and Google Images. I still wanted this design to resemble the world of Harry Potter but did now want to go with the obvious choice of creating a Snowy Owl. I settled on making the image resemble an ordinary Barn Owl instead, though as I mentioned I couldn’t help coloring the scarf in my house colors.
Once that was completed I trimmed the background panel down to its final dimensions using the Hero Arts Nested Rectangle die and my Gemini die-cutting machine, as well as a black mat for visual appeal, then adhered them together with double-sided adhesive. I then repeated the process for the composite adhering it to a white card base. I then used some black ink to stamp on my sentiment which also came from the same stamp set. With that, I called the card complete.
