Our next hop date will be the 7th of Feb and the theme will be "National Send a Card Day".
National Hedgehog Day, observed annually on February 2nd, is a dedicated celebration aimed at raising awareness about these charming creatures. Hedgehogs, known for their small size and distinctive spiky appearance, have a fascinating self-defense mechanism: when threatened, they can roll into a tight ball, protecting their vulnerable underbellies with their sharp spines. This unique adaptation adds to the allure of these mammals. The history of National Hedgehog Day traces its origins to the United States, where it has gained traction through social media and wildlife organizations. Beyond the celebration, the day serves as an opportunity for enthusiasts to share vital information about hedgehog conservation, the importance of protecting their habitats and fostering responsible interaction with these intriguing beings. Embracing these aspects not only promotes the well-being of hedgehogs but also engages readers in the broader conversation about wildlife preservation. I hope you enjoy.
To create this card I began with some white cardstock and a few stencils from My Favorite Things from my collection for the clouds and the grass. The adorable Hedgehog, which seems to favor a Porcupine just a smidge, was from an animal stencil set that I found at Hobby Lobby. The colors were all leftover ink from other projects still on my ink brushes which I gently blended for a light and soft hue.
Once that was completed I trimmed the background panel down to its final dimensions as well as a kraft-colored mat to emphasize a connection to nature then adhered them together with double-sided adhesive. I then repeated the process for the composite adhering it to a white card base. I then used some black ink to stamp on my sentiment and for added visual interest added some flat-back red hearts. With that, I called the card complete.
