My Time To Craft Inspirational Design
It has to be Christmas!
Good day, fellow crafters. I am thrilled to introduce my inspirational submission for the My Time To Craft Challenge Blog, challenge #521, “It has to be Christmas!” theme. It is once again nearly that time of year so we are challenging you to come up with a new and unique Christmas-themed card.
For every challenge we, as the design team, attempt to bring you themes and ideas that will test your abilities and, ideally, ignite your enthusiasm to explore fresh ways of thinking. However, what I like most about being part of the team is seeing how we each showcase our take on the theme and sometimes just what the card means to the creator.
I hope you are inspired to enter this challenge and I can’t wait to see your creative take on this week’s theme. Be sure to tag me on your entry and/or comment below so I know to watch out for you. Remember Crafting is Happiness!
To create this card, I secured a 6 in x 6 in piece of vellum sheet onto an equally sized sheet of double-sided adhesive. I took care to do this slowly to avoid any bubbling of the Vellum. Next, using scissors, I trimmed along the edges where the Vellum and adhesive met to remove any excess adhesive that if left behind would leave sticky residue on my trimmer or on the embossing folder.
Once that was prepared I inserted the trimmed vellum into the Altenew Perfect Poinsettias embossing folder, featured left, and ran it through the embossing machine. To ensure that I get a clean and crisp transfer I typically do this twice. I then removed the newly embossed vellum from the folder and then carefully peeled back a portion of the adhesive and aligned it in the corner of a red cardstock, ensuring perfect placement. Once aligned, I slowly removed the adhesive sheet backing, pressing the vellum onto the background panel, once again being as careful as possible to avoid bubbling.
The next stage was the card assembly. I trimmed the vellum and cardstock down to 5.5 in x 5.5 in so that I could leave a .25 in border around it. I then applied double-sided tape to the edges of the background panel and adhered it to a 6 in x 6 in green card base. Lastly, I used a Christmas-themed sentiment hot foil glimmer plate and some gold foil to create my sentiment label which I surface mounted to the card background panel. With that, I called the card complete.
As I was having so much fun with this technique I created a second version of it, which you can see in the gallery below, where Altenew’s Enchanting Gold ink was added on top of the raised portions of the embossing to give it some more visual appeal.
