Create It Three Ways IG Hop
Gratitude/Thanksgiving
Good day, fellow crafters. Hello and welcome to the Create It 3 Ways IG Hop! We are sharing triple the inspiration! This is a monthly hop on every 3rd Saturday at 3 PM ET – please message @amritapettus for more info if you’d like to join us. Each month we challenge ourselves by choosing our own category from theme choices to feature across all 3 cards. For November I chose to feature Gratitude. I hope you enjoy my submission to this challenges.
The concept behind this Instagram hop involves creating three cards using identical materials but in three distinct ways. The following description details the creation of one of the cards but all three were created in the same way
The first step in the process was to create the background panels for these cards. I began by using white Hammermill cardstock, Spellbinders Glimmer foil in Rose Gold, and Spellbinders Sweeping Grateful Glimmer Plate, featured left. I heated the glimmer plate up using the Glimmer Hot Foiling machine, mine needs to go through the heat cycle two to three times for the best results and then I followed the manufacturer’s instructions to add the foil to the card. This step was first because it makes it easier to remove overfoiling as you won’t risk damaging any other part of your design.
In the next stage, I used ink-blending brushes and a combination of colors from Distress Oxide, featured right, to create my final look. The foil acts as a resist to the inks so you don’t have to worry about getting any ink on it as it will wipe clean very easily. Once all of the background had been covered I set it aside and allowed for drying time.
After the ink had dried, I misted the back of the background panel with water and placed the background panel into the Gina K Falling Leaves embossing folder, featured left. The water helps to moisten the fibers of the cardstock allowing them to bend easier without tearing. I then used a Sizzix embossing diffuser plate, also featured left, as part of the sandwich placed into my die-cutting machine so that I could leave my sentiment unembossed. The set of diffusers comes in three various sizes but the one I used was a 2-1/2 in oval. I then set the panel aside to dry and once that was done I used a sanding block to lightly scratch off the ink from the tops of the embossing.
The last stage was assembly. I trimmed each panel down to its final dimensions along with a kraft-colored mat to reinforce the mother nature theme within the design. For additional visual appeal and dimension, I utilized the Impression Obsession Patchwork Leaves die set and the cut-off from my background panel to create a leaf to add to the card. This was attached using some pop dots. I then adhered the background panel and the mat together with double-sided tape and then repeated the process onto a white card base that was measured, cut, and folded custom to each of the cards. With that, I called these cards complete.
