My Favorite Things Weekly Sketch Challenge

Inspiration Sketch 646

Good day, fellow crafters. I am delighted to share with you my submission for the MFT Weekly Sketch Challenge #646. I genuinely mean it when I say this every week: I love how these sketch ideas inspire me. Each entry I've submitted so far has taken me in new directions, revealing perspectives I hadn't previously considered for my card-making. I hope you enjoy my submission for this week as much as I enjoyed creating it.

MFT Happy Birthday BG-20

From a statistical perspective, the highest number of births typically takes place between July and October, and it recently came to my attention that my supply of birthday cards was running low. Hence, I decided to take on this sketch challenge and create a new card at the same time.

To start off, I opted for a stunning red cardstock as the background, upon which I stamped the MFT Happy Birthday Background. Since the stamp consisted solely of text, I was concerned that it might overpower the rest of the card. To address this, I used VersaMark watermark ink, which lightly imprinted the background onto the card, leaving a subtle hint of the design.

The next step involved creating "windows," although they weren't actual cutouts, but rather an illusion. Using white cardstock, I stamped the adorable MFT Birthday Bears (BB-129) to represent the birthday theme. To bring these cute, cartoon-like images to life, I used Copic markers for coloring. Once completed, I carefully cut the white cardstock to match the dimensions of the red background, ensuring proper alignment with the text. Subsequently, I used Gina K's Soft Stone ink to stamp the background pattern onto the white cardstock. The gray hue of this ink on the white surface resembled a newsprint, which I found appealing.

Finally, I cut out the stamped and colored images and affixed them onto the red cardstock. This arrangement created the visual illusion of window cutouts and added an interesting element to the overall design of the card.

To complete this card, I used the MFT Let’s Celebrate (CS-716) stamp set, Nocturne ink and embossing powder so that the sentiment would have some dimension. I then added the background to a black mat and adhered the entire assembly to a pre-cut A2 white card base.
