My Favorite Things Color Challenge

#222 - November 2023

Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present to you my entry into the My Favorite Things Color Challenge #222, and just a fair warning you may want to put your shades on before you check it out. The color pallet for this challenge is, well, very bright and not necessarily one that I would choose for my cards. However, the whole purpose of these challenges is to think outside of the box and work with materials, colors, and themes that are not in our regular repertoire. I find these challenges very rewarding every time I complete one and encourage you to give them a try as well. I hope you enjoy my submission to this challenge.

To begin this card I opted for a vibrant and striking approach. I selected Lawn Fawn’s Lemonade to craft the unique background panel by smearing my ink across white cardstock. I must say this choice is definitely a wow moment. I then set the panel aside to dry.

The next step was to create all of the focal elements. Again I was going for a very vibrant and bold statement, so with the remaining colors in my pallet and the assistance of the My Favorite Things Floral Adornment dies set, featured below right, I crafted out all of the elements and then decided “Why not” and assembled them into my very own floral arrangements. I then set those aside to dry.

The next step was to add the sentiment to the background panel. For this, I chose to use the MFT Spread Your Wings stamp set, which is currently retired. I stamped the message with black ink a couple of times to make sure I had a really clean transfer. I then added the last element to the background panel by using the flick method to disperse some black acrylic paint.

The last stage for this card was the assembly. I first used a rounded corner die from my nest die collection to trim the background panel and a black mat to their final dimensions. I also used the largest of the dies to round the corners off a pre-cut and folded A2 white card base. Next, the background panel was adhered to the mat with double-sided tape, and then the composite was adhered to the card base in the same fashion. Lastly, I adhered all of the focal elements to the card base with liquid glue. With that, I called the card complete.
