Snowflakes
Winter Wonderland Hop - Week 2
Good day, fellow crafters. Welcome to our Winter Wonderland Cardmaking Hop Week 2 hosted by @kellysantidesigns ❄️ Each Wednesday in November, we are creating cards with a winter theme. We’re happy to share this week’s theme suggested by teammate @simeen.creates and @diana.larson ~ Snowflakes! If this theme inspires your creativity, please use #winterwonderlandcardhop2023
Snowflakes, those delicate crystalline structures that grace our winter skies, are a marvel of nature's artistry. Each snowflake is a unique masterpiece, displaying a symmetrical pattern of intricate ice crystals. What makes snowflakes truly remarkable is that no two are alike, much like the cards that all of the talented people in this hop will undoubtedly create. If you want to see those wonderful cards be sure to follow my instagram page @forgetmenotcardco and look for this picture. There you will find our hop list in the description.
To create the background panel for this car I began by ink-blending with Distress Oxide in the color called Broken China on top of white cardstock. I started the blending process from the outside of the cardstock and worked in from all directions until I got near the center. As I approached that area I lightened up the pressure on my blending brush and let the color fade to the white of the background to provide a center spotlight effect. After allowing the ink time to dry I used my Spellbinders Label 28 die set to cut out the shape of the background panel. I really like this die set because it reminds me of old wooden shop signs.
For my sentiment I chose a sentiment stamp set from Papertrey ink called Snow Sentiment (Item #1454). I next aligned, inked with clear embossing ink, and then stamped my sentiment on the background panel. I then covered the ink with white embossing powder and then set it with my heat tool.
The next step was to use a stencil in my collection from Tonic Studios for these gorgeous snowflakes. To get this look I first secured my background panel to my work surface, and then secured the stencil in place over it. Using a small pallet knife and Gina K’s Irredescent Glitz Glitter gel I then covered the open stencil areas. With careful attention paid to not letting the stencil slip, I carefully peeled it off of my background panel and then allowed it to dry.
The next stage was assembly. I decided that I would give this card a double mat to carry my theme which was accomplished by cutting one from a white and one from a pale blue. I then adhered the background panel to the mats and then the mat to the pre-cut and folded A2 white card base with double-sided tape. With that, I called the card complete.
