Today's challenge is to take the sketch layout provided on the left and use it as a foundation for crafting a clean and simple card. Even though I usually enjoy creating my own designs from scratch, there are times when a design prompt can be incredibly beneficial for shaping an idea. It's like getting a gentle push in the right direction, aiding in the development of a concept. Today it lead me to the design you see above and the description of the process below.

To begin I took a piece of my cold press watercolor paper, Nocturne ink, and the
Simply and Lovely floral stamp from Unity stamps, featured below. These are red rubber stamps but repositionable so I put my Misti stamping tool into action and aligned and stamped the florals into position.

The flowers are arranged in a loose, natural way, and they add a touch of whimsy and beauty to the card. The look of the stamp is the whole reason I wanted to watercolor them for this project. To do so I used my favorite method of smooshing ink onto my glass mat, spritzing with water, and then picking up the pigments with my water brush to apply them. The specific colors you can find in the image on the right. Once the color had been applied I had to allow the background panel to dry.

Once the drying was complete I trimmed the background and a complementary pink mat to their final dimensions, adhered them together, and then adhered the composite to a pre-cut A2 white card base. Once this was complete I used the “Hello” die from Sunny Studios’ Sunny Snippets cut the sentiment in black cardstock. To add some visual depth I double-stacked the sentiment, which I do often when the text’s font is too thin to use pop dots. Lastly, to give the card some extra visual interest I employed some golden pearls in the center of each flower and some smaller golden flat-backs in the corners.
