Fairies
Fantasy Inspired Instagram Hop - January 2024
Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present to you my submission in the Fantasy-Inspired Instagram Hop! Here you will find cards inspired by various fantasy-based themes! This is a monthly hop on the 1st Saturday at 10 AM CT/11 EST. If you are inspired and want to hop along with us please message @bkeeleycrafts on IG for more info.
This month's theme is fairies! Doesn’t matter what time of year you see them, they always have that little extra magic! If you want to see the list of other participants and their work, head over to IG, and find this card on my page @forgetmenotcardco. I hope you enjoy.
To create this card I first began with some cold-press watercolor paper and an Altenew watercolor set. I chose to use colors that would represent a setting sun as the Tonic Studio Fairy Lily die set, featured left, lends itself fantastically to making a silhouette cut out. I took care to blend the edges of each color into each other as a smooth transition is the best look for natural lighting in my opinion. Once I had finished and while still wet I next sprayed just a misting of homemade shimmer spray over the card. I then set it aside and allowed it to dry fully.
The next step was to use some black card stock and my Gemini die-cutting machine to cut out the fairy. I have a near-zero waste policy in place for my crafting so this was done from the center of the cardstock that became the black mat. I then set it aside.
The next step was to create the sentiment. Once the paper was completely dry, and this is a must to prevent ink smear, I took the paper and secured it to a Cricut mat. Using Cricut Design Space software and a fine-tip pen, .04 Black, I laid out and had the Cricut draw in the sentiment. The software translates a lot of font styles to look like you are drawing with a bubble font and leaves the center empty. However, if your font is small enough it will appear filled in as it does in my card.
The last stage was assembly. Using a Hero Arts rectangular nesting die set, I first cut the background panel down to its final dimensions and then followed that up with a slightly larger die and the black cardstock I used to cut out the fairy to cut out a mat. I then used double-sided tape to adhere the background panel to the mat and then repeated the process to adhere the composite to a white card base. I next positioned the fairy and adhered it to the background panel with Bearly Art liquid glue. Lastly, I added some flat-backed pearls for visual interest. With that, I called the card complete.
