Appreciate a Dragon Day

Whacky Holiday IG Hop - January 2024

Good day, fellow crafters. Appreciate Your Dragon Day traces its origins to the creative mind of author Donita K. Paul, who introduced the concept in her DragonKeeper Chronicles book series. The day was officially designated on January 16th and serves as an imaginative and whimsical way for individuals to take a moment to acknowledge and embrace the mythical significance that dragons hold in various cultures and storytelling traditions. I hope you enjoy my submission.

To create this card I first began with a dragon die that I purchased from Globleland sometime ago and some purple and blue cardstock. After I cut them out with my Gemini die-cutting machine, using the tip of my finger I applied Ranger Lunar Paste in Silver Lining to the purple cardstock and Ranger Solar Paste in Golden Hour to the blue cardstock. I then set them both aside to dry.

I next used the Nested Torn Edge Rectangles die set from Crafters Stash, featured left, to cut a mat for each card. I chose purple and blue specifically because of the recipients that would be receiving the card but any color you wish would work well. To give the card a bit more visual depth I cut a second mat for each card in black with a larger die from the set.

The next step was to add the sentiment. For both cards I used the VersaMark watermark ink and the same sentiment from my collection but different embossing powders. For the purple card, I used WoW! Silver and for the blue I used WoW! Aztec Glintz, which isn’t available on Amazon but you can find it online. I heat set each of them and set them aside to cool down.

The last stage was assembly. I first arranged each of the black mats onto a gray card base using double-sided tape to adhere them into place. I then repeated this step with the corresponding background panel, placing them at an angle to add character to the card. Then using Bearly Art liquid glue I adhered the dragon to the background panel. With that, I called the card complete.
