My Favorite Things Weekly Sketch Challenge
Today’s a Day to Celebrate (with Wine)
Good day fellow crafters. I am delighted to share with you my submission for the MFT Weekly Sketch Challenge #641. Participating in this challenge is one of my favorite activities, as it pushes me beyond my comfort zone and challenges my preconceived notions about card designs. I often find myself creating cards with a standard layout and mat without even realizing it, so these challenges offer me the opportunity to redirect my thinking and come up with fresh ideas. I sincerely hope you enjoy my submission.
Starting with this blog post, I've decided to share the challenge sketch when I post my submissions so that you can get a better sense of the inspiration it provides. As you can observe, the sketch is not your typical picture frame and mat arrangement, but I believe I successfully captured its essence.
I began crafting this card by sifting through my assortment of supplies and contemplating what constitutes a great celebratory image. While conventional ones like cake, balloons, fireworks, or presents came to mind, I was aiming for a more mature-themed card. As I pondered, I stumbled upon a paper theme pack in my scrapbooking supplies that reminded me of wine, and I realized it was perfect. I trimmed the sheets to fit a pre-cut A2 Kraft card base and adhered them according to the sketch layout.
For the wine glass, I started with the MFT Wine Glass die-cut and a vellum sheet. However, I was dissatisfied with how thick the glass's exterior appeared and the fact that it removed the center. So, I had an epiphany and sliced off the stem, then glued it to the middle cutout, resulting in a much cleaner appearance. Once I colored the back of the vellum with my Copic R59 marker and a smidge of black for shading, it looked more realistic. The glass's shine was achieved by using a combination of a white gel pen and a white colored pencil.
To create the grapes, I used a blend of Ranger's Distress Oxide in Lumberjack, Villainous Potion, and Wilted Violet, as well as Altenew’s Grapevine, and stamped them with a fruit collection stamp and die set from my collection with Altenew Jet Black and cut it out with its coordinating die, I them used pop-dots to provide depth.
The sentiment was from the Altenew Blissful Bud stamp set and stamped with the same Jet Black ink.
