For a Superhero

Good day, fellow crafters. At Forget-Me-Not Card Company, we hold a special place in our hearts for the courageous service men and women who protect us. Their dedication to ensuring our safety and preserving our freedoms is truly commendable. As a token of appreciation, we have designed a card to celebrate a remarkable individual graduating from their office training course, and soon to take their official oath to defend us all.

Please note that the card presented here is not in its final form, as certain details were personalized for the recipient to ensure their privacy. Nevertheless, we hope you find inspiration in this card and consider creating something special for the hero in your own life. Join us in honoring those who selflessly serve to keep our liberties intact, reminding them that their sacrifices are deeply valued.

To create this card I started with some woodland camouflage paper from a scrapbook paper pack that I trimmed down to fit onto an A2 sized card. I then chose a green cardstock that was a color I felt matched will with the background paper, as well as a black cardstock to add visual interest and trimmed them down to their final dimensions. I then adhered the background to the black and green mats followed by adhering them to a pre-cut A2 white card base.

The next stage was to create the foreground elements. I first started with the female superhero figure. I first stamped her image from the Sunny Studio’s Super Duper stamp set in black ink on some premium Hammermill paper. I then took Distress Oxide in a few coordinating greens and other additional colors and smooshed out some ink onto my glass mat and spritzed with water. I then used my water brush pen to pick up the pigment and watercolor in the clothes of the figure. I next used watercolor pencils to color in the skin tone and hair. Lastly for the character I used the corresponding die and cut the figure out and added pop-dots before I set it aside to dry.

The next focal images to create for this card were the dog tags and the star, both of which were made using the Thank You Hero die set from Erin Lee Creative, pictured right. The dog tags I cut from a mat finished, metallic silver cardstock, though the studio lighting makes it look shiny. The star was cut from a metallic gold glitter cardstock. Once I had these items cut out I adhered them to the background panel and then added the superhero figure.

The final piece of this card, minus the offline personalization, was to add the sentiment. I chose to stay with my superhero theme with the cursive script “hero” text die from the same Erin Lee Creative set.

If you would like to send a special card to a service member there are many great organizations out there that can help, like Operation We Are Here or Hugs for Soldiers to just name a couple. Give it some thought, it could just be that you only get to have to craft because they gave up their time to protect you. God bless our service members!
