A Color Challenge

2024 Crafty Kickoff - Week 3

Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present my submission to the 2024 Crafty Kickoff IG Hop. The theme for this challenge was a provided color pallet, which is the logo above. I can safely say this would not have been a go-to pallet for me, but I am also comfortable with challenging myself to go outside of my comfort zone to see what I can accomplish. In the end, I think I managed to do fantastically. I hope you enjoy.

To create the focal image of this card I began with some vanilla cardstock, black ink, and the Gina K Bold Bloom stamp set featured left. Once I had the image stamped onto the cardstock I chose an assortment of Gina K and Wendy Vecchi inks that as closely resembled the challenge pallet as possible. These were Red Hot, Tomato Soup, Christmas Pine, Grass Green, and Acorn.

I next utilized one of my favorite techniques, the smooshed ink watercolor method. If you haven’t done this before you begin by smooshing a little ink from your ink pad onto a glass mat, spritz it with a little water, and then use a brush or water brush pen to pick up the pigment so you can watercolor with it. I find this the most satisfying way to simulate a watercolor look using the colors that you want without having to mix the colors yourself. Once it was all color, highlighted, and shaded to my satisfaction I sat it aside to dry completely.

The next step was to use the Fluted Classic Ovals from Spellbinders, featured right, and my Gemini die-cutting machine to cut the focal image to the size and shape that I envisioned. Once that had been completed I adhered the focal image to a piece of trimmed-down, beautifully colored patterned paper that very closely matched my color pallet with some Bearly Art liquid glue. I then adhered the composite to a white card base. Lastly, using a sentiment from the Bold Bloom set I created the sentiment by stamping it directly to the background panel with black ink . With that, I called the card complete.
