Wacky Holiday Hop - November

Forget Me Not Day

Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present to you my entry into the Wacky Holiday Hop for November. In this month's Wacky Holiday Hop entry, I'd like to introduce Forget Me Not Day, celebrated on November 10th. I selected this particular day not only for its name but also because it embodies the essence of my vision behind founding the Forget-Me-Not Card Company. The concept of this day resonates deeply with me; it emphasizes the significance of remembering the people whose lives we've touched. I established the company with the belief that everyone deserves to be remembered in a meaningful way, beyond generic gifts or mass-produced items commonly found in stores. Forget-Me-Not Day aligns perfectly with the heartfelt mission of our company, aiming to offer a more personal and genuine way for people to express their sentiments.

National Forget-Me-Not Day goes back to the times of World War I when American soldiers would come back from war wounded. These veterans at the time were coming back at rates far higher than the government expected, and there were very few organizations and services available for those wounded in the war.

Because of the massive influx of wounded warriors, Judge Robert S. Marx, a decorated World War I soldier, founded National Forget-Me-Not Day to help remind people of the sacrifices those made during World War I, raising funds for disabled veterans through selling Forget-me-nots. After returning from the war, he helped establish the Disabled American

Veterans Foundation in 1920, which annually celebrates the holiday through the annual sale of Forget-me-nots and annual caucuses ever since. People on this day remember the veterans who lost their lives and honor disabled veterans who still live to this day. I hope you enjoy my submission.

I started crafting this card by focusing on the foreground element, particularly the petals of the flowers. Using a white cardstock and my blue blending brush, I began by blending blue-hued Distress Oxide inks, namely Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean, and Peacock Feathers until I had a hue that I was satisfied with as they allowed me to achieve the desired color gradient for the petals, lending a vibrant and eye-catching touch to the overall design. You might ask, why not use a dedicated forget me not blue ink pad, and that is a good question, my answer is that when you look up the color forget me not blue there is not a set standard for the color between manufacturers, the most common answer I found was that it was Sky Blue, which still has varients in hues. However with Forget Me Not’s, there are 74 different species and they can come in a variety of colors, including Sky blue, Pale purple, Pink, White, Bright blue so I felt that it was safe to go with my chosen blue.

Once I had allowed the ink to dry I used the Spellbinders Forget-Me-Not and Ladybugs die set to cut all of my petals, flower centers, and leaves. I next utilized the Spellbinders nested Fancy Edged Oval die to create the background panel for the flower and adhered everything into place with glue. To give it some depth and visual appeal I gave a slight bend to all of the petals and added a flat-backed gem from Kat Scrappiness for the flower center. Lastly, I decided on a personal level to go ahead and add the ladybug. The reason for that is because this time of

year every year my area becomes the home to thousands of these little guys looking for a place to stay warm for the winter. It reminded me that everyone and everything should be remembered.

The next stage was assembly and finalization. Using the Spellbinders nested Essential Four Petal Label die and the closest blue I had to a traditional sky blue, I cut a mat to fit the background panel. I then adhered them together and then adhered the composite to a rounded corner, white card base. Next, I continued with adding dimension by using some clear flat-backed pearls to represent water drops. The last step for this card was to add the sentiment, which came from the Gina K Rarest Rose stamp set, featured right. With that, I called this card complete.
