Try it on Tuesday Challenge

Feathers

Good day, fellow crafters. I am thrilled to share my submission for the Try it on Tuesday blog challenge, centered around the captivating theme of "Feathers." Feathers are beautiful gifts from nature which have captivated us with their uniqueness. They come in a variety of colors, textures, sizes and cultural meanings across various civilizations and societies throughout history. They have been revered as symbols of spirituality, wisdom, divinity and are believed to possess sacred qualities. They can also represent freedom, courage, and strength, as seen in Native American traditions where eagle feathers are considered highly esteemed. I hope you enjoy my submission.

The design concept I chose to use for this card was to really focus on the image of the feather. I wanted to get as much detail as I could but at the same time leave it to the viewer to fill in the blanks. The materials I chose to bring this idea to life was the Feather die set from Love Nicole (STC0267), Yupo paper, alcohol inks in blues and copper, cardstock in copper, black and white, while the sentiment was the Dream Big die set from Erin Lee Creative.

To begin I first took the precaution to protect my worksurface from accidental staining by stray drops or accidental spills of the alcohol inks. They will stain any porous surfaces so I use some 3 mil plastic sheeting to cover everything. I then took out my Yupo paper and strategically placed droplets of my chosen colors around the page. Using my Tim Holtz blower I moved the ink around until it covered the page the way I wanted. I then set it aside to dry.

The next step was to create the feathers and since they were going to be the same color I created the sentiment at the same time. All of these components I cut using their respective dies from the copper colored cardstock. I felt that this really made them pop against the blues in the background. To enhance the sentiment, I also created a black mat using the corresponding die from the sentiment set.

Copper on black is really dynamic so for the next step I trimmed a piece of copper and a piece of black to their final size and adhered them together as a double mat for the background. I then trimmed the white cardstock to size and then folded it to create an A2 sized card base. To the card base I adhered the double mat, and once it had finally dried and trimmed down the background as well.

Lastly I adhered the feathers and the sentiment to the card base to complete this card.
