My Favorite Things Weekly Sketch Challenge

When I saw this week’s Sketch Challenge, sketch image 634, the first thing that came to mind was it looked a lot like a military id tag or as everyone knows them today, a “dog tag”. Having grown up in a military family these are something I am very familiar with so I chose to do this super cute card to present as this week’s entry.

This 4”x6” bi-fold card base was made from a piece of white Hammermill brand smooth card stock, a piece of black card stock, and then another layer of the white card stock that I then used the Camouflage layering stencil from A Colorful Life to create the background pattern. For realism, I went online and reviewed current military uniforms and then compared that to my Copic markers to color in the pattern.

I created the dog tag using the Hero Arts tag die, Gina K’s Silver embossing powder, and Nuvo Drops Silver Lining for the chain of the dog tag. To this, I mounted the little boy figure which was made by using the My Favorite Things Super Boy stamp and die set then colored with Copic markers and highlighted with white and black gel pens.

Finally, I created the sentiment using some more of the black card stock and silver embossing powder.

This was a fun project and brought back a lot of memories for me. So if you are interested in history like I am you may like to check out the article “Dog Tag History: How the Tradition & Nickname Started” by Katie Lang of DOD News which you can find here.
