National Popcorn Day
Whacky Holiday IG Hop - January 2024
Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present to you my submission for the January National Holiday Hops 2024. Today's theme is "national popcorn day". If you feel inspired by this hop then be sure to use the hashtag #nationaljanuaryholidays2024 so that we can see your work as well.
National Popcorn Day, celebrated on January 19th each year, originated in the early 21st century in the United States. While the exact origins are not well-documented, the day gained popularity as a way to honor the beloved snack. Popcorn itself has a rich history, with evidence of its consumption dating back thousands of years, particularly among Native Americans. This celebration has grown over time, and on this day, people come together to enjoy the various flavors and forms of popcorn, whether at home, in theaters, or at special events, making it a joyful tradition for popcorn enthusiasts.
To create this card I first began by looking through my craft stash to see what supplies I had that were popcorn-related. At first, I thought that I wasn’t going to have any luck but I stumbled upon the awesome patterned paper you see on my card and of course, pulled it out and used it right away. Using my Gemini die-cutting machine and a rectangular die from my nested Hero Arts die set I cut it to size and then adhered it to a white card base using double-sided tape.
Then I managed to get super dupper lucky and discovered that not only did I have the My Favorite Things Movie Icons die set featured left, but also the MFT What’s Poppin’? stamp set featured below and right. Using an assortment of colored cardstock that when assembled brought my memories back from my teenage years spent at the local mall’s movie theater, I cut out each of the pieces from the Movie Icon set. I also cut a neutral brown mat for the image so that I could divide the foreground from the busy background panel. Using Bearly Art liquid glue, I assembled all of the pieces and the brown mat onto the background panel. I wanted this to bring my audience back in time so I took the time to use some Fire Stone Red and Marina Mist (blue) mirror cardstock from Craft Perfect to create some iconic 3D glasses.
The last step was to create my sentiment by using the aforementioned MFT What’s Poppin’? stamp set. For this card, I stamped directly onto the background using some jet-black ink. With that, I called the card complete.
