National Pie Day
January National Holiday Hop 2024
Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present to you my submission to the January National Holiday hop 2024 on Instagram. Today's theme is "National Pie Day" and we are hopping along between creators using the hashtag #nationaljanuaryholidays2024. If you are inspired and want to contribute be sure to use that tag when you post. It will allow us to see your work. If you want to be involved in the next hop just message @kellys.craft on IG. Our next hop date will be 31st Jan and the theme "National Hot Chocolate Day".
National Pie Day encourages people to enjoy and celebrate the diverse flavors and culinary delights that pies offer. It's a great opportunity for your readers to explore new recipes, bake their favorite pies, and perhaps even consider incorporating pie-themed content into your blog to engage and captivate your audience. I hope you enjoy.
To create the scene for my card I first began with a couple of pieces of patterned paper from my collection for the tablecloth and the blue wall in the background. To convey depth and dimension, I partitioned the background panel into thirds. The top third represents the farthest element, while the remaining two-thirds constitute the foreground. I trimmed each of the papers to their final dimensions and then adhered them into place on a white card base with Bearly Arts liquid glue.
The next step was to create the placemat under my focal image. To do this I chose to use a cream-colored cardstock, my Gemini die-cutting machine, and the Fishtail Banner dies from Sunny Studio featured right. I used these in the corner of my cardstock so the result would provide a scalloped edge. I then positioned it to appear on top of the tablecloth, measured, marked, and trimmed what was necessary and then adhered it into place with liquid glue.
For my focal image, I opted for an indispensable collection of dies from Spellbinders, which you can see below. I used elements from each of the kits to create the silverware, plate, pie, topping, and crust with relative ease. If you would like to get any of these sets, just click on the image and it will take you to them.
To create the pie I first began with some white cardstock and Distress Oxide ink in the color Uncharted Mariner. After I ink-blended the cardstock to the desired hue, I used the Spellbinders die to cut it out. I then applied Nuvo Irredescent Glitter Accents to it so that it would have some shimmer to it. I next used Glossy accents to replicate the look of some pie filling that was escaping down the sides. Once that had dried I applied a bit more of the Nuvo over the top. Once everything was dry and ready I adhered all of the pieces to the background panel with liquid glue.
For the last step, I utilized some black ink and a sentiment from the Hero Art color layering Hummingbird stamp set. With that, I called the card complete.
