My Time To Craft Inspirational Design
Holidays Around the World
Good day, fellow crafters. I am thrilled to introduce my inspirational submission for the My Time To Craft Challenge Blog, challenge #523, “Holidays Around the World” theme. It is once again nearly that time of year so we are challenging you to come up with a new and unique Christmas-themed card.
For every challenge we, as the design team, attempt to bring you themes and ideas that will test your abilities and, ideally, ignite your enthusiasm to explore fresh ways of thinking. However, what I like most about being part of the team is seeing how we each showcase our take on the theme and sometimes just what the card means to the creator.
I hope you are inspired to enter this challenge and I can’t wait to see your creative take on this week’s theme. Be sure to tag me on your entry and/or comment below so I know to watch out for you. Remember Crafting is Happiness!
For this card I took the meaning of Around the World literally, with this really cute set from Hero Arts called Out of This World Christmas, featured left. To create the card I first began with creating my background panel on white cardstock. Using Distress Oxide in the colors Blueprint Sketch, Dusty Concord, and the left over yellow still on my ink-blending brush from a previous project, I blended out a night sky. Once I had the hue that I was looking for I then used white acrylic paint and the splatter technique to create the stars. I then set it aside to dry.
The next stage was to create the focal images. To do this I began by placing a piece of white cardstock into my Misti stamping tool and then aligning, inking and stamping all of my images with Gina K Amalgam ink. I next used my Copic markers to color in each of the elements as well as their shading. I next wanted to give my elements some texture, so to the trim of Santa’s hat, I used some WoW! White Puff embossing powder and to his gloves Wow! Chocolate Carmel Pearl. To Rudolph’s nose I added red Nuvo Crystal drops. To finish them off I added a bit of Glossy Accents, which you can see better in the gallery image below, to their space helmets. Lastly, I fussy cut all of the images from the cardstock and using liquid glue positioned them onto my background panel, then gave them a slight shadow line.
The next step was assembly. I trimmed the background panel to its final dimensions, as well as a black mat for visual appeal. I adhered them together with double-sided tape and then repeated the process with the composite to the white card base. To finish the card off I used a sentiment from the chosen set and then heat embossed it with more of the White Puff embossing powder. With that, I called the card complete.
