My Time To Craft Inspirational Design
Summer Time Water Play
Good day, fellow crafters. I am thrilled to introduce my inspirational submission for the My Time To Craft Challenge Blog. For every challenge we, as the design team, attempt to bring you themes and ideas that will test your abilities and, ideally, ignite your enthusiasm to explore fresh ways of thinking. However, what I like most about being part of the team is seeing how we each showcase our take on the theme and sometimes just what the card means to the creator.
Sunning in a pool is truly the best way to indulge in the perfect blend of relaxation, rejuvenation, and enjoyment. With the refreshing water to cool off, the comforting warmth of the sun's rays, the weightlessness and tranquility of the buoyant environment, if I can’t be at the beach then this truly is the next best thing.
I hope you are inspired to enter this challenge and I can’t wait to see your creative take on this week’s theme of Summer Camping. Be sure to tag me on your entry and/or comment below so I know to watch out for you. Remember Crafting is Happiness!
For my summer time water play card I immediately thought about lounging in the pool. I am truly a water baby, so if I can’t be at the beach, the lake or floating down the river, then I am in the pool. It's not just about escaping the heat of the day; it's also about the incredible relaxation it brings. As I grow older, I appreciate how the pool eases the stress on my joints and soothes my achy muscles. It's a double win, as I not only cool off but also find relief from pain. For me, it truly encompasses the best of both worlds.
To create this card I turned to a collection of stamps and dies in my stash from Fun Stampers Journey. More specifically I used the Pool with a View Die Set (DI-0549) and the Make a Splash stamp set (SS-0674). The are both very cute sets and I have used them many times. I first began by choosing a light gray cardstock with which I used used the larger of the two pool dies to cut out the edge of the pool it self, this could be either stone or tile. I chose for it to look like grouted stone so I used my white gel pen to trace in the lines to give it that appearance. I next took some metallic blue cardstock and used the inner die to cut out the water. I really like how this turned out as it gives the illusion of depth to the water. I adhered both pieces and set them aside.
For the next step I stamped out all of the pieces you see in the pool, with the exception of the ladder which came from the die set and white cardstock. After I had stamped each piece onto white cardstock with black ink I used my Copic markers to color them in. Since there is no associated die for these stamps I had to fussy cut around each of them. I then glued each of them in place. In creating each stamp you can see that you also create the ripples of water. I intentionally cut those off when I cut them out because they just didn’t look right. So I recreated something similar with some black ink. The choice of black may not look the most authentic however it was the only type of ink I found in any of my pen sets that would actually work on the metallic cardstock.
With all of the pieces in hand I adhered them in place on to a grass green colored cardstock. I then used a green pen to give in some texture to make it look more like a lawn. For dimension I stamped and cut out a beach umbrella, which I added pop dots to the back of before I mounted it as well. I then trimmed the background panel down to its final dimension as well as a nice black mat and then adhered them together and then to a pre-cut A2 white card base.
To finish the card off I used a sentiment from the stamp set and black pigment ink.
