This week we are creating with the design inspiration of the MFTWSC660 layout, pictured on the left. Personally, I have a special fondness for layout challenges because they introduce me to unique design approaches that I might not have considered otherwise. It's quite intriguing how these challenges push me beyond my usual boundaries. In fact, I've begun curating a personal assortment of layouts that catch my eye or those I take part in. This assortment serves as inspiration for my upcoming projects, ensuring that each one carries a touch of innovation sparked by these challenges.

With fall coming on quickly, I decided that I would start working on cards with that overall feel to add to my collection of work. So with that in mind I turned to the Simon Says Stamp Layering Apples stencil, and the My Favorite Things Apple of My Eye Stamp

set as my inspiration and a combination of Lawn Fawn and Gina K inks, pictured right, as my color pallet.

I secured some white cardstock to my work surface and then by carefully aligning the stencil layers in order, I was able to create the same pattern and coloring as the product image using my inks and a blending brush. I really loved the color combination and have a couple of projects already in mind to reuse this stencil. I then set it aside to dry.

I next took a piece of Hammermill white cardstock and stamped the image of the little girl onto it in black ink. I then used my favorite technique of smooshing out some ink onto my glass mat in the color I intended to use, spritzing it with water, and then using my water brush pen to pick up the pigment to watercolor my image. Once that had been completed I set it aside to dry completely.

The next step was to trim the apple background down to its final dimension and then adhere it to a brown card base. I chose brown to play off of the idea of the apple tree from which the little girl was picking the fruit. I then added a black Ric Rac ribbon border for visual appeal. Utilizing the My Favorite Things Wonky Stitched rectangular die (MFT-0839) I cut my focal image down to its final dimension and adhered it in place on the card per the layout sketch. To complete the card I used a sentiment die, some white cardstock, black ink, and a sentiment from the same stamp set to create a cute little statement for the front which I then adhered into place.
