My Favorite Things Weekly Sketch Challenge

Challenge #655

Good day, fellow crafters. I'm excited to share my entry for the My Favorite Things (MFT) Weekly Sketch Challenge. Drawing inspiration from this week's sketch prompt, I crafted the layout of my card. However, the true design inspiration came from my neighbor who's undergoing eye surgery. Knowing her love for vibrant colors and her quirky sense of humor, I knew exactly the kind of card that would bring a smile to her face. I can't wait to share it with her and I hope you all enjoy it too!

This week we are creating with the design inspiration of the MFTWSC655 layout, pictured on the left. This sketch is very similar to last weeks with the exception of the three smaller object placements. Once I broke out my SPECtacular stamp (MSTN-008) and its corresponding die set, however, I knew exactly how I would address that design element.

To create this card I went through all of my scrapbooking patterned paper packs until I found this bright golden yellow with polk-a-dots, and knowing my neighbor realized this was the paper to use. I next went through all of cardstock until I found this bright pink that matched very closely to some of the polk-a-dots. This provide me with my background and mat elements which I trimmed to size and adhered to a pre-cut A2 white card base. I then set it aside to work on the focal point of the card.

To create the main focal point I used one of the glasses frame shaped dies to cut out a frame in the same dark pink as the mat. I then used one of my square dies to cut out the light pink backing cardstock and adhered the glasses to it. To add a bit of realism to the glasses I choose to fill in the lens area with glossy accents. I set this aside to fully cure and moved to the next step.

Now I had to create my three miniature elements. I took some scrap white cardstock and three of the small stamps, pictured on right, and stamped them in black ink. I used my Copic Markers to color each of them in and set them aside.

The last stage was assembly of my foreground elements. I centered my light pink cardstock on the background panel in the location prescribed by the inspiration sketch and adhered it in place. I next adhered all of the small glasses in place under the light pink cardstock. Then the final step was to stamp the sentiment into place, which I took from the same stamp set, in black ink.

I'm truly excited about how this card turned out, and I have a strong feeling that my neighbor will appreciate it as well. I sincerely hope that you enjoy it too!
