My Favorite Things Weekly Sketch Challenge

Dressed All to the Nines

Good day, fellow crafters. Today I bring to you another challenge entry from My Favorite Things. As I have mentioned before I really love these challenges because the inspiration templates always get me to think outside of the box. For instance, this week's inspiration sketch layout had never even crossed my mind as a layout possibility and so I had to challenge myself to create a card for it. It may be a simple layout but after seeing some of the work of the other talented people entering the challenge it has a great number of possibilities. I hope you enjoy.

The image on the left is this week’s inspirational sketch layout. I did come up with several different ideas for how to use it but in the end felt a straightforward and simple approach would serve me the best. I decided that since I would keep my design compact I need some compact elements so I went hunting in my MFT collection for something suitable. I settled on the flower dies set you see in the image below, which kind of reminded me of the side of the Mystery Machine, and decided to put it to use.

The first step was to use the Distress Oxide, in the colors below, and some white cardstock to blend out the various hues you see featured in the card. The thing I think I enjoy the most about this brand of ink from Ranger Ink, besides the ease of use in ink blending, is how they seem to have a slight change in color in different lighting. Once I was happy with the hues I punched out nine flowers and then nine of the yellow centers and adhered a center to each flower.

To create the background I chose this cardstock with a color that is slightly difficult to see in the glamour shots. It is a peach-hued paper but has a slight nap that when the 5600K light from my LED studio light hits it makes it look shimmery and metallic although its not. I next aligned all of the flowers per the inspirational sketch and adhered them to the background. I next trimmed it to its final dimension along with a black mat and then adhered both to a pre-cut A2 white card base.

The next step was to use another MFT die set to cut out the sentiment. In order to get the spacing correct on the letters I first cut them out with my die-cut machine then used the paper they were cut from as a template to put them back down. By adding just a little glue under each piece I could get just the right spacing, easy peasy.

I really hope that this card inspired you to create something today, or maybe even to enter and show off your skills too. If you do be sure to let me know so I can see what you have created too.
