My Favorite Things Challenges
MFT Weekly Sketch up #649 and June Color Challenge
Good day, fellow crafters. I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to showcase my paper craft creations in several challenges this month. Today, I am delighted to present yet another chance, graciously provided by the talented individuals at My Favorite Things. Their products are top notch and I quite often incorporate them into my work, including the challenge entry featured below. If you haven't seen what they offer before, I encourage you to check out MFT Stamps, and if you're interested in participating in any of the exciting challenges, be sure to visit their Community tab on the menu bar. I hope you find joy and inspiration in my presentation and are inspired to along on your own craftastic journey.
In order to create this card and have it as an entry to both challenges I needed to incorporate the colors from the challenge pallet above and draw inspiration from the weekly sketch challenge idea on the left. However, I faced a dilemma in the process as I lacked a solid design theme. I considered for quite a while about just what to do that would complement the use of the colors but I kept coming up blank. Suddenly, I heard the jingle of an ice cream truck passing by my neighborhood, which for some reason sparked thoughts of snow cones then that turned into the upcoming birthday celebrations I had to attend, which long story short lead me to arrive at the card you see before you.
To begin the card I first went through my stacks of scrapbooking paper as I remembered that I had some paper that had a very close range of colors that would match the challenge pallet. The rainbow paper you see on the card fits the bill but what made it stand out for incorporation in this card is the unique way that foil was incorporated into it. Now that I see how they did this I will likely use the same idea in the future myself. You can really see the way it shines in the gallery image at the bottom of the page. I pulled the rainbow paper out of its binding and with a matching piece of pink cardstock cut the background and mat to final dimensions then adhered them to the pre-cut A2 white card base.
The next step was to create the foreground, and since I had decided that this would be a birthday card and as I wasn’t sure of who the recipient would be yet, I went with a genderless choice of images and stamped out a set of balloons using the MFT Balloon Bundle. For coloring I ink-blended with Altenew Crisp inks in the colors of Winter Lake and Ultraviolet, Ranger Ink’s Distress Oxide in Shaded Lilac, and Gina K’s Passionate Pink. I then decided that while I do like the image that the stamp and die would provide, the card needed some dimension. So I fussy cut around the image and then raised it up on pop dot on a piece of vanilla cardstock which I cut down to the correct size for this card. Instead of trying to deal with the balloon strings I decided to draw them on the card with a fine-tip black pen instead.
To finish the card, I stamped the sentiment in black ink and then arranged various-sized flat-backed pearls from Little Things Regal Collection around the card. I felt by adding them you could imagine even more balloons floating into the sky in the distance which helps to also add more depth to the card.
I hope that you found this helpful and inspirational for your own crafting journey and I can’t wait to see what you create for these great challenges.
