My Favorite Things Color Challenge
#218
Good day, fellow crafters. I am thrilled to share my submission for the My Favorite Things (MFT) Color Challenge #218. These challenges always provide us with a beautiful color palette to work with (you can find it below my entry). It's fantastic that we're not restricted to using only the exact colors, as it allows for creativity and flexibility. While I didn't have all the precise matches in my collection, I did manage to find some very close alternatives.
By presenting my work, I hope to inspire all of you to embark on your own creative journey. This community has been incredibly supportive and would undoubtedly appreciate seeing your creations as well. So, feel free to join in! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy viewing my submission.
To create this card I first began with some white card stock and the My Favorite Things Magical Friends stamp set (BB-092), featured left. This set kind of reminds me of Disney’s 1977 classic Pete’s Dragon, which I loved growing up. I started with some VersaFine Nocturne and stamped out my favorite of the three larger images from this set. I next utilized the smoosh method with inks from Lawn Fawn (Kiddie Pool) and Distress Oxide (Salvaged Patina, Weathered Wood, and Lumberjack Plaid). By smooshing the inks onto my glass mat and then spritzing with water I could apply them to the image with my water brush pen just like watercolor pigmentes. Once the image was completely colored in I allowed it to dry thoroughly.
The next stage after the image was dry was to create the fun heart-framed border surrounding the image. To do this I turned to a unique die from Kokorosa Studio that I really have wanted to use for a while now, featured below right. Once the image was cut I trimmed a piece of red cardstock for a mat and this allowed the hearts to be red as well. I then adhered the two pieces together using some double-sided tape and then adhered the composite to a pre-cut and folded A2 white card base.
To complete this card I utilized a sentiment from the Magical Friends stamp set and the same black ink to add in place the sentiment statement. Lastly, to give the card a bit more visual appeal I turned to some flat-back Soft Pool colored pearls from Little Things and used the rule of odds to apply an uneven number to the card front. Incorporating uneven numbers creates a sense of dynamism and prevents perfect symmetry, engaging viewers and adding an organic, inviting feel to your designs.
I hope you have enjoyed my submission and if you decide to participate be sure to tag me so I can see your creations.
