Gem-tastic!
Good day, fellow crafters. When it comes to adding a touch of elegance what is better than some cut gems, am I right ladies? Today’s challenge comes from Dream Valley’s Challenge #299 to add gems or pearls to a card design and I will be entering my solution to the challenge there as well as to some Anything Goes Challenges from Polkadoodles and Hero Arts. I hope you enjoy my submission.
To craft this card, I started with white HammerMill paper, the A True Gem stamp set from Love Nicole, and Gina K inks in the color shown on the left. Using my Misti tool, I positioned the clear gem stamps where I wanted them and stamped the image with black ink. Afterward, I turned the paper 180 degrees, reinked the stamps, and stamped the image again.
As the ink dried, I used the smoosh technique for my primary colors. I applied a small amount of ink from each color onto my glass mat, spritzed it with water, and then used a water brush to pick up each color to fill in the gems. I allowed it to dry thoroughly.
The next step was to enhance the visual appeal and make the gems really pop. I used Glossy Accents and Liquid Pixie Dust to fill in each gemstone, giving them a sparkling effect like real gems. Glossy Accents contains resin, so it takes some time to dry. I usually leave it overnight to ensure it's completely set.
Once everything was dry and the Glossy Accents had solidified, I trimmed the background panel and a red mat to their final dimensions. I added the sentiment from the Love Nicole set in black ink and assembled the card on a pre-cut A2 white card base. This process creates a stunning gem-themed card with a touch of sparkle and elegance.
