With Deepest Sympathy
Good day, fellow crafters. Today, I present to you a project that I recently completed. As I sifted through my personal stash of completed sympathy cards, I noticed a common theme: most of them leaned towards feminine designs and darker tones. Realizing the need for a lighter-toned, less somber option in my stash, I set out to create just that with something gentle, uplifting, and universally comforting that radiates warmth and solace in times of sorrow. I hope you enjoy.
To create this card I first began with watercolor paper, VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink, and the Spellbinders Graceful Blooms stamp set which is featured on the left. Using my Misti stamping tool, I secured the paper, aligned the stamp, and then inked and stamped the image. Per my usual method, I reinked and stamped the image several times for a sharp clean image transfer.
After allowing time for the ink to dry, I transferred the paper from my Misti to my worksurface and secured it into place. I next, used my favorite technique, ink smoosh watercolor painting to color the image and the background. The inks used were all Distress Oxides and the colors were Tumbled Glass, Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint, Salt Water Taffy, Tattered Rose, and Wild Honey. Once I had completed the coloring of the image I set it aside to dry fully. At this point, I used additional spritzes of water and watercolor paper to soak up the extra ink to use as future backgrounds.
The next step in the process was to use the Hero Arts rectangular nesting die set, I first cut the background panel down to its final dimensions and then followed that up with a slightly larger die and some black cardstock to cut out a mat. Using Bearly Arts liquid glue, I adhered the background panel to the black mat. I then adhered the composite to a pale pink card base.
To finish the card, I utilized the Nocturne ink once again with a sentiment from the Altenew Fresh Freesia stamp set, featured right. At the time of writing this post, Altenew did not have this set when I searched for it but it can be found from third-party vendors. Lastly, I added a bit of dimension with some flat-backed gems which were attached with more liquid glue. With that, I called the card complete.
