Playing with Textures

Good day, fellow crafters. Imagine a card that not only captures your sentiments in words but also engages your sense of touch, inviting you into a world of textures and sensations and allowing for the power of tactile experiences to enhance the art of communication. Whether it's the smooth elegance of silk ribbons, the rustic charm of handmade paper, or the playful sparkle of glitter, each texture adds a unique dimension to the heartfelt message of the card you create. I hope you enjoy my submission.

In the process of crafting this unique card, I started by focusing on the background panel. My choice fell upon the Altenew Stacked Diamonds Cover Die, showcased on the left, as I firmly believe that texture isn't solely confined to the realm of touch; it should also shape the way we perceive our visual environment. Unlike the usual practice of popping out all the cut pieces, I deliberately retained them. This decision was inspired by the notion that texture should not only be seen but also imagined through touch. By preserving these intricate details, I aimed to evoke the anticipation that running one's fingers across the card might resemble the sensation of touching the scales of a dragon, creating a multisensory experience for the viewer. Once I had the background panel cut, I trimmed a black mat for it and then used double-sided tape to adhere the two together. This is an A2-sized cover die but I wanted my card a bit bigger so I next cut and folded a white card base to fit. I then used double-sided tape again to tape the background composite to the card base.

The next stage was to create the focal point. To accomplish this I decided to start with the Altenew Mega Bloom Stencil, featured right, and some white cardstock. Using some embossing paste and a pallet knife I applied a generous coating over top of the stencil. I then carefully peeled the stencil off and while still wet I applied some crystal glitter on top and then allowed this to dry completely. Next, I utilized the Altenew watercolor set to add the color and then just a bit more of the crystal glitter and allowed it to dry. Once everything was completely ready I fussy cut out the stencil and used some wet glue to position and adhere the focal point to the card background. Lastly, I stamped my sentiment in black ink and then cut it out of a matching purple cardstock with a sentiment tag die. With that I called the card complete.
