A Simple Femine Congratulations Card Using Scrap
Good day, fellow crafters. Today, I've been occupied with finding creative ways to utilize the heap of leftover scraps that I've accumulated over the last few months. I believe that, like me, many of you value the efficient use of time, money, and materials and avoid wastage whenever possible. So, despite my storage bins overflowing at times, I tend to keep everything that I can repurpose later.
As a result of my resourcefulness, I was able to create a beautiful card using these scraps. It's a testament to the fact that even the most humble pieces can be turned into something stunning with a little ingenuity and effort. I hope you appreciate the fruits of my labor and find inspiration to use your own collection of scraps in unique ways. I hope you enjoy.
The beginnings of this card were really a what-if scenario for me. You see I had been using Lindsay’s Magical Powders to make my watercolors for another project and when it was done I realized I really had a lot left over. So again, not wanting to waste anyting and figuring “eh why not” I grabbed some extra watercolor paper and laid it into the watercolor to soak it up. By letting it do that I got some very interesting patterns and combinations of colors and shimmering effects. I was quite pleased with the way they turned out but they were still scraps so I set them aside, well until today.
To create this card I took one of the pieces that was more subdued in coloring but heavily shimmering pieces of scrap and cut it to the final size I wanted to use. I next used my Simon Says Stamp Split Botanical stamp set along with Altenew’s Crisp Ink in the Lavender Fields color to stamp my images onto the background. In order to give the card some visual appeal, as the design was so simple, I broke up the space into threes, placing the stamped image diagonally from each other in the corners to create a strip diagonally across the background which draws the eye across the entire card. This was easy to do with this set as you simply don’t use all three pieces of the set.
The next step was to mat and mount the background to the pre-cut card base and add the sentiment. For this, I used a piece of scrap for the mat as well as a piece of the same cardstock as the card base, which was another piece of scrap, and stamped it with a sentiment from the Honey Bee Layering Wisteria stamp and dies set in Jet Black. Then using the corresponding die, cut the sentiment out, added pop dots for dimension and adhered it to the card.
This card is a testament to the idea that even the most humble scraps can be transformed into something beautiful with a little creativity and effort. By using simple design techniques and layering stamps and dies, a stunning and unique card can be created from leftover materials. So, the next time you find yourself with a mountain of scraps, don't throw them away! Instead, take inspiration from this card and turn them into something special.
