Christmas Kitty

Humerous Christmas Card

Good day, fellow crafters. Welcome to the #runuptochristmashop2023 hosted by @love_smile_and_craft and @kellys.craft. We are going to make a card each week for 12 weeks until Christmas. This week's theme is "humorous” (funny card).

As the holiday season wraps its festive tendrils around us, we couldn't resist adding a paw-sitively adorable touch to your Christmas cheer. Picture this: a cozy stocking hanging by the chimney with care, but instead of visions of sugarplums, there's an irresistibly cute kitten tucked inside, ready to pounce on the festivities. Forget the chestnuts roasting; we've got a furball frolicking! This Christmas, may your heart be as warm as a purring kitten in a stocking, and your days be filled with the joy that only the holiday season. I hope you enjoy my submission to this challenges.

To create the background for this card, I began with some trimmed-to-fit, light green cardstock and the Park Lane Hollyberry embossing folder, featured left, which is a super cute design for making Christmas cards. Per usual before I put my paper into the embossing folder I made sure to lightly mist the back of the cardstock with water. The added moisture allows for the paper fibers to bend more easily when pressed into the shape of the embossing folder. It also has the added benefit that this allows for there to be a much lower probability that you will get torn paper out of the folder than if you don’t add moisture. I then placed the paper into the embossing folder and ran it through my die-cutting machine a couple of times to ensure I would get a clean and crisp image.

The next step was to add some highlights to the newly embossed background panel. To do this I utilized Altenew’s Antique Gold ink and a brayer to carefully add ink to the embossing folder. I then ran the panel through again to transfer the ink onto the paper. I repeated this step a couple of times and in the end, it not only colored the center of my holly leaves but it gave a slight difference in color to them making them stand out against the green background. To finish off the panel I continued adding some color by using some Pops of Color in Ruby Glitter for all of the berries that were created.

I next created the focal point for this card, my Christmas Kitty, with the assistance of Sunny Studio’s Santa’s Helpers stamp set and my PrismaColor colored pencils. After the image was colored I fussy cut it out and adhered it to a black oval mat so as to bring it more visual appeal. Next, I added some foam pop dots and then adhered it to the background panel.

The sentiment was created with a stamp from the same stamp set by stamping it onto black cardstock, which came from the center of what would become my mat, with clear embossing ink. I then added gold embossing powder and set it with my heat tool. Once it cooled I used a stitched label die to cut it out. I then adhered it to the background panel, again using some pop dots for dimension.

The last step was assembly. I trimmed the before-mentioned mat to its final dimensions, adhered the background panel with double-sided tape, and then that composite to a white card base. With that, I called this card complete.
