Rest and Relaxation

National Holiday Hop 2024

Good day, fellow crafters. National Bubble Bath Day, celebrated on January 8th each year, has a whimsical origin rooted in the simple joy of relaxation and self-care. The exact origins of this unofficial holiday are not well-documented, but it gained popularity as a social media-driven observance, with individuals and brands embracing the idea of taking a moment to unwind in a luxurious bubble bath. The day encourages people to indulge in a soothing bath experience, often accompanied by scented candles, soft music, and, of course, a plethora of bubbles. While the historical details may be elusive, National Bubble Bath Day has become a delightful and lighthearted occasion for individuals to prioritize self-pampering and stress relief.

If you follow my posts you know I am also all about learning so here is a little history for you as well. The concept of rubber ducks began with the invention of rubber during the 19th century and the first rubber ducks were not intended as toys but were rather created as industrial products, in fact, their purpose was to serve as chew toys for children. However, the design evolved, and in the 20th century, the floating rubber duck we are familiar with today emerged. The shift to a floating design is often attributed to the popularity of the Sesame Street character Ernie, who famously sang the song "Rubber Duckie" in the early 1970s. I hope you enjoy my submission.

To create this card I first began with a couple of sheets of patterned paper for the background panel, and the rug from my paper collection. Then I used the My Favorite Things die sets, featured left for all of the focal elements. These are the (L to R), Bubble Bath die set, the Serenity Now die set, and the Pots and Plants die set. Using my Gemini die-cutting machine I cut out each of the many tiny pieces from their corresponding cardstock color and with Bearly Art liquid glue adhered them together. This was time-consuming but the final product was worth the hassle in my opinion.

I next assembled my scene. I placed every item into position making sure to create a focal triangle to draw the eye through the scene and adhered them into place with liquid glue. For finishing touches to the scene, I made sure to add some highlights to the plants, create my wine bottle, fill the glass (of course), and then by using vellum, I created the bubbles. I next added a little Liquid Pixie spray to give the bubbles just a little bit of shine. The last step was to use the MFT I Need Some Me & You Time stamp set to create the sentiment, which was done with VersaMark watermark ink and WoW! White embossing powder and then heat set.

The last step was to complete the assembly. I took the completed background panel and with double-sided tape adhered it to a white card base. With that, I called the card complete.
