Awaiting Spring Blooms

Good day, fellow crafters. Today I would like to present the results from a watercoloring class I took recently. If you have followed me for any time at all you will know I love this particular method for adding color to my work more than just about any other. I had so much fun with the class that I just had to share. I hope you enjoy.

To create this beautiful card I first began with some cold-press watercolor paper and the Altenew Endless Florescence stamp set, featured left. I prefer to use smaller-sized selections of watercolor paper when I work on cards so as to reduce the amount of wasted product, in this case, I opted for a 5x7 sheet. I placed the paper into my Misti stamping tool, aligned the stamp, and then inked and stamped the image with clear VersaMark watermark ink. I then removed it from my Misti, and applied WoW! Black embossing powder to the image and set it with my heat tool.

Once the embossing powder had cooled I secured the paper to my work surface. I then began my favorite part the coloring! I love the smooshed ink method for watercoloring so that is what I went with for this project. Using Altenew Crisp inks in the colors Silver Stone, Mountain Pine, Mountain Mist, Turquoise, Deep Iris, and Wisteria I smooshed out a bit of color onto my glass mat and then spritzed the color I wanted to use with a little water. Next, using a brush I picked up the pigment and painted it in my image. Once I had finished I set the piece aside to dry,

The next step in the process, and this shows up a little faint in the photo but not in person, was to use the Spellbinders Origami Folds embossing folder, featured right, and my Gemini die-cutting machine to emboss the entire panel. When I do my embossing I generally run it through my machine twice to get a nice clean image transfer.

The last stage was assembly. Using a Hero Arts rectangular nesting die set, I first cut the background panel down to its final dimensions and then followed that up with a slightly larger die and some purple cardstock to cut out a mat. I then used double-sided tape to adhere the background panel to the mat and then repeated the process to adhere the composite to a white card base. For the final touch, I used a piece of watercolor and a sentiment label die from my collection to create the “Bloom” sentiment, which was made with the Endless Florescence stamp set and black embossing powder. With that, I called the card complete.
