Something New
613 Avenue Create Inspirational Post
Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present to you my January 2024 contribution post as part of the 613 Avenue Create design team. I'm super excited to be working alongside these talented crafters to bring you some fun challenges and creative prompts that will spark your imagination. This month’s challenge inspiration is “Something New”. For myself, I decided that my something new was going to be this adorable baby card, while I have many types of congratulations cards I had nothing to help celebrate a new baby. If my work inspires you then head on over to the challenge blog and join us. You can find the link under the headline banner. I hope you enjoy.
To create the background panel for this card, I began by using a piece of cut-to-fit pink cardstock and the Gina K Swiss Dot embossing folder, featured left. After lightly misting the back of the cardstock with water to allow the paper fibers to bend instead of break, I ran the embossing folder through my Gemini die-cutting machine a couple of times to ensure a crisp transfer of the embossing. I then set it aside to allow the cardstock to dry.
The next step was to create the shape of my background panel. To do this I used the embossed pink cardstock Hero Arts Onesie die, above, for the main shape. Then for the frilly lace look around the arms, legs, and neck holes I used white cardstock and a nested scalloped circle die from Tonic Studios and then trimmed them to size. These were adhered into place using Bearly Arts liquid glue to adhere them to the the background panel.
The next step in the process was to trim two different shades of pink cardstock into mats and then adhere them together with double-sided tape. I then adhered the composite to a light pink card base that matched one of the mats. The background panel was then adhered on top of the mat layer with pop dots. To wrap up my design I used Spellbinder’s Elegant Occasions sentiment and die set, featured right, along with their Bright Pink foil to create the sentiment. With that, I called the card complete.
