Vintage Santa
Run Up to Christmas - Week 11
Good day, fellow crafters. Welcome to the #runuptochristmashop2023 hosted by @love_smile_and_craft and @kellys.craft on Instagram. We have been making a card each week for 12 weeks until Christmas. This is week number 11 and the theme is "Vintage Christmas". Delving into the theme of Vintage Christmas, we're transported to a time of timeless traditions and classic celebrations where the simplicity of candlelight and the melodies of familiar carols create a warm and inviting atmosphere. I hope you enjoy my submission.
To create the background for this card I first began by scouring through my stash trying to find something that I could use that just felt vintage to me. It just so happened that in my scrapbooking supplies, I had a book of Holiday paper that had this terrific newspaper print. I chose this paper for my background panel, then utilizing the Torn Edge nested die set from Creative Craft Products, featured left, I positioned it so I could the two advertisements onto the card and then ran it through my Gemini to cut it down to size. To give it just a bit more of a vintage feel I utilized Distress Oxide in the color Vintage Photo all along the edges. I like this technique because it makes the paper look aged.
The next step in the process was to create all of the elements for the card that were black. I first trimmed down a piece of black cardstock to its final dimensions and to not waste materials I cut out the shadow for my Santa image, using the My Favorite Things Special Delivery from Santa stamp and die set, featured right, and the sentiment label from it. Next, I used double-sided tape to adhere the background panel to the mat and then again with the composite to a white card base.
For the focal point, I again used the MFT stamp and die set to stamp the image of Santa onto a piece of white cardstock. I then used my PrismaColor colored pencils and photos of Christmas images from the 1960s for my color scheme. Once colored I then adhered it to the shadow I cut previously with a slight offset to give the image some dimension and then adhered that composite to the background panel.
Lastly, I stamped the sentiment, again from the MFT set, with Hero Arts ink in the color Unicorn onto the sentiment label and then with liquid glue adhered it to the background panel. With that, I called the card complete.
