Sharing Summer Cardmaking Challenge 4
Sun Kissed Hues
Good day, fellow crafters. Today I am sharing with you my entry into this week’s Sharing Summer Cardmaking Challenge! This challenge is being hosted by @thatcraftygolden and you can find their page on Instagram, and is running from July 9th - September 3rd. This week's theme is Sun Kissed Hues, and for me, that says the classic colors of Little Havana in Miami, which is what I have incorporated in my submission. If this theme sparks your creativity, join us in the fun! Don't forget to use the hashtag #sharingsummercards, as we can't wait to admire your creations. I hope you enjoy my submission to this challenge.
Having embraced the vibrant essence of tropical regions throughout a significant portion of my life, I find myself invariably captivated by the kaleidoscope of colors and the rich tapestry of cultures that these locales offer. One such place that resonates profoundly with my senses is the enclave of Little Havana in Miami. With its fusion of heritage and modernity, this neighborhood becomes a living canvas where the sun-kissed hues of life are not merely colors, but stories waiting to be told.
To begin I started with some white cardstock, a blending brush, and some Gina K inks in the colors Powder Blue and Ocean Mist. Utilizing those supplies I ink-blended the background panel until I was satisfied with the interplay of the two shades of blue. I then set the background panel aside to thoroughly dry.
The next phase was to create the foreground elements. These lovely flower dies were part of the Gina K monthly club kit called Tropical Sunshine that I purchased earlier this year. What I really like about them is that they are multiple pieces that have to be assembled for a 3D effect. I prefer this to 2D representations of objects because our senses are tuned for the 3D version so it has a greater appeal to the eye and thus draws the attention of the viewer. Each of the components for the flower was first created with white cardstock and various colors of Altenew inks, see the gallery above for an image of all of the colors, and then cut out with the corresponding die. I then allowed them all to dry thoroughly.
Once everything had dried, the next step was to assemble everything. I first adhered all of the flower components together and then adhered the composites to the background panel. I next used the Sending Good Vibes stamp from the kit’s included stamp set, featured right, along with some black ink to stamp the card’s sentiment onto the background panel. With all of the elements in place I trimmed the background to its final dimensions along with a black mat for visual interest with a rounded corner rectangle die, and then adhered them together. I liked the look of the rounded corners on the composite background panel so I used a larger rounded corner rectangle die on the pre-cut A2 white card base I had ready. Lastly I adhered the card composite panel onto the card base and called the project complete.
