World Suicide Prevention Day
A week of cards to remind other they are not forgotten or alone
Good day, fellow crafters. World Suicide Prevention Day is an important occasion that brings attention to a topic that affects countless lives around the globe. At Forget-Me-Not Card Company, we believe that fostering connections and spreading positivity is at the heart of what we do, and addressing such critical issues aligns with our mission. All this week we are joining with other crafters and cardmakers to create works that will serve to remind the recipient that they are not forgotten or alone. Please feel free to hop along with us on IG using my post as a starter or by finding our works using any of the following hashtags: #stopsuicide #realconvo #realtalk #suicideprevention #itsokaynottobeokay #mentalhealthmatters #selfcare #youarenotalone

To create this card’s background I first began with some white cardstock. Then using the Simon Says Stamp "You Matter" background stamp, showcased on the left, and Gina K's pigment ink in the shade known as Soft Stone, a gentle gray hue, I generously applied the ink to the background stamp. Next, ensuring even pressure for complete coverage, I stamped the image onto the white cardstock. Personally, I am not usually a fan of text-based backgrounds for my cards, but if you take the time to read what this one has to say, you will find it has just the heartfelt message that is at the core of what we are trying to convey with this hop.
The next step was to create my foreground focal images, the iconic looped ribbons. The use of looped ribbons as symbols of awareness gained prominence in the early 1990s. The trend is often attributed to the Yellow Ribbon campaign for the Gulf War and the Red Ribbon Project used to raise AIDS/HIV awareness but has been adopted by many causes since then. I have utilized the Simon Says Stamp Awareness Ribbon die, featured right, to create the ribbons for three causes I felt tie very closely together. The center ribbon of blue and purple is the chosen ribbon for the cause we are here for with this hop, Suicide Prevention. It is flanked on the right by a green ribbon which is representative of Mental Health Awareness and on the left by the orange and yellow (yellow gold) ribbon which is representative of Self-Injury Awareness. This die made creating these ribbons very easy.
The last step for this card was assembly. I chose to give this card a little more interest so I used the Notched Edges nesting dies from Creative Craft Products to cut the background panel and a soft gray mat to size. I then adhered them together and then adhered the composite to a square white card base, of which I rounded the corners. Lastly, I positioned the adhered my ribbons to the card background panel and called the card complete.
