Power of Embossing
Good day, fellow crafters. I am pleased to present to you this handmade card that’s a perfect blend of delicate watercolor and shimmering gold embossing powder. The soft hues of the watercolor contrast beautifully with the bold, metallic shine of the gold embossing powder, resulting in a truly unique and eye-catching piece. I hope you enjoy it.
To begin crafting this card, my first step was selecting the perfect cardstock. I carefully considered various color combinations based on my intended watercolor choices and ultimately chose ones that complement each other beautifully. Next, I resized and cut both of the mats, the sentiment background in a Vanilla color, and a piece of watercolor paper for the foreground to size. I then adhered all of the pieces, except for the watercolor paper onto a pre-cut A2 card base in a Vanilla hue to match the sentiment.
Using clear ink and the Happy Birthday sentiment stamp from Simon Says Stamp, I carefully stamped the sentiment onto the vanilla cardstock before applying Nuvo Gold Embossing Powder. Finally, I used a heat gun to set the embossing powder in place, completing the final touch to the background.
For the card's focal point, I utilized the same embossing technique as with the sentiment, but this time using the Captivating Blooms stamp set from Altnew. I have utilized this stamp set on numerous occasions before and my go-to method for coloring has always been with Copic markers. However, for this particular card, I decided to switch things up and experiment with Altenew's watercolors instead. The reason you would want to emboss first prior to watercoloring, the method I am utilizing, is that the embossing acts as a resist for the watercolor and makes the pieces of the stamped image like little wells where you can place color without them running together. The end result turned out to be so stunning that I think I will now opt for watercoloring whenever I use this stamp set in the future. After allowing ample time for the flowers to dry, I meticulously fussy cut around each one before mounting them onto the assembled card base. This final step brought everything together, completing the card and creating a stunning finished product.
In the gallery below you can find images of several different coloring options that show how versatile the stamp can be with just a few color changes.
