National Waffle Day
National Holiday March IG Hop
Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present to you my submission to the March National Holiday Hops 2024 on IG. Today's theme is "International Waffle Day". Follow along by using the hashtag #nationalmarchholidayhop2024. Our next hop date is the 27th of March and the theme will be World Theatre Day / National Whiskey Day. I hope you enjoy.
To create this card I first needed to decide on how to create a waffle. I don’t have a specific waffle stamp or any other breakfast themed stamp collections that could be substituted so I was feeling a bit discouraged. That is when I ran across the Altenew Rows of Squares embossing folder, featured left, in my collection and realized if I were to trim it down I would have a perfect waffle.
I then took white cardstock, an ink-blending brush, and Distress Oxide ink in the color called Brushed Corduroy and used them to blend a hue that I felt resembled a cooked waffle. I then trimmed the cardstock to to fit the embossing folder and then lightly misted the back with water. This adds enough moisture to the paper fibers so that they bend without tearing. I next ran it through my Gemini a couple of times to ensure a crisp transfer. I then set it aside to dry.
In the mean time, I chose the cardstock for my background panel and mat then cut them to their final size using a Hero Arts rectangle die. I then used Bearly Arts liquid glue to adhere the background panel to the black mat, and then to adhere that composite to a matching card base. The waffles were then trimmed to size and adhered in place with more liquid glue.
For the embellishment of my waffle I just had to have butter and syrup. For the butter I turned to Honey Bee Stamps To My Butter Half stamp and die set, featured right. After ink blending some small yellow spots onto some white cardstock, I used the butter stamp to stamp the image and the die to cut them out. I then adhered them to the waffles with more liquid glue. To give them some glisten as if the butter was melting I used a bit of Glossy Accents on top. For the syrup I turned to Brutus Monroe’s Faux Honey which I spread across the top of the waffles.
To finish the card I used a sentiment from the To My Butter Half set and black ink. With that, I called the card complete.
