My Time To Craft Inspirational Design

Two Pattern Paper

Good day, fellow crafters. I am thrilled to introduce my inspirational submission for the My Time To Craft Challenge Blog, challenge #517. For every challenge we, as the design team, attempt to bring you themes and ideas that will test your abilities and, ideally, ignite your enthusiasm to explore fresh ways of thinking. However, what I like most about being part of the team is seeing how we each showcase our take on the theme and sometimes just what the card means to the creator.

I hope you are inspired to enter this challenge and I can’t wait to see your creative take on this week’s theme. Be sure to tag me on your entry and/or comment below so I know to watch out for you. Remember Crafting is Happiness!

The challenge for this time was to create a card using two or more patterns. Now patterned paper isn’t usually my go to medium though I have used it when I find the right one. To use two or more is something I wouldn’t normally consider at all but for this challenge I decided to give it a go.

I started by looking through my patterned paper collections and decided to use from this Love Nicole set, featured left. The reason I like this particular set for this purpose is because the papers are all muted colors, nothing at all that jumps off the page at you. When I actually sat down and when through this collection I found that right many of these definitely coordinated with each other. In the end the two I chose to use contained the same shade of the light blue which acted to tie the two pieces together very nicely.

The first step was to create my background panel. In this case it was a the light brown patterned paper. To coordinate with the paper I chose a brown cardstock to use a mat and as accent color in this card. Next I used Sunny Studios Fishtail Banner to edge both the blue patterned paper and a accent mat for it. I then adhered the blue patterned paper to the brown mat with double-sided tape and then positioned in on the background paper and adhered it in the same way. I then repeated this step for the other side of the card.

Once that step was complete I trimmed the background panel to its final dimensions, trimmed up the brown mat I mentioned earlier, and then adhered them together with double-sided tape. I then adhered this composite to the a pre-cut and folded A2 white card base.

The last steps were to create and add the sentiment to the card. I opted for Simon Hurley’s Everyday Sentiment die set to do this. I first used the left over blue pattered paper for the sentiment and then used the corresponding shadow die with the brown cardstock. I then adhered these together and with foam tape adhered them to my card to finish it off.

I hope you find inspiration in my creation and want to create something yourself as we at My Time to Craft would love to see it.
