Falling for Wednesday Hop
Bootiful
Good day, fellow crafters. Welcome to my Week 7 contribution for the Falling for Wednesday IG Hop, where our theme revolves around a Halloween theme. My design focus is Bats! Bats have long been associated with Halloween, adding an eerie and mysterious touch to the holiday's spooky aesthetic. These nocturnal creatures play a significant role in the folklore surrounding Halloween. One intriguing fact is that bats have often been linked to the myth of vampires. This connection likely stems from their appearance at night, their preference for dark and secluded places, and their occasional habit of drinking blood from other animals. While real bats don't turn into vampires, this association has contributed to their enduring presence in Halloween decorations and stories. I hope you enjoy.
To create this cute card I gathered some with some white cardstock, and some of my inks that chosen colors were absolutely perfect for this project. The first step was to use a circle stencil and ink-blend in the image of my moon. My overall goal was to try and replicate something similar to a scene from one of the early Batman movies where the bats were flying out into the night. Once I was happy with the hue of my moon, I allowed it to dry completely. I then applied a mask to it so I could create the rest of the background. I blended in this gorgeous orange along with some subtle hits of yellow and finally “dirtied” the image up with a bit of Soot black. I then removed the mask over the moon and allowed everything to dry.
The next step for this background panel was to add the bats. To accomplish this I secured my background panel to my worksurface and then secured the Picket Fence Studio 6x6 A2 Cauldron of Bats stencil (SC-309). That’s a really long name but the reason for giving it all is that this particular stencil has been discontinued and is out of stock from the manufacturer, so if you want it specifically you will need to find it on the secondary market. It also seems that Picket Fence Studio has a new version with the name Cauldron of Bats and it is not this one. With everything secured in place I carefully applied Gina K’s Glitz Glitter Gel in black over the stencil with a small pallet knife. Once all the bats were colored in with the gel, I carefully removed the stencil. I then allowed it to dry overnight before handling the background any further.
The sentiment for this card was created using another popular Halloween color, purple, which is complimentary to the oranges and blacks in this card. The color purple itself is not a traditional Halloween color but is often used because it has often been associated with mystery, magic, and the supernatural, which align with the mystical and otherworldly themes of Halloween. I used the Picket Fence Studio Happy Halloween die set (PFD-333) to cut out all of the letters and then adhered them to the background panel.
The last step was to trim the background panel to its final dimensions and with double-sided tape, adhere it to a black mat cut with a cover die for visual appeal, and then finally I adhered that composite to a white A2 card base.
