Sharing Fall Hop
Fall Foliage
Good day, fellow crafters. Today I am sharing with you my entry into this week’s Sharing Fall Challenge! This challenge is being hosted by @thatcraftygolden and you can find their page on Instagram, and is running from September 18th - October 19th. This week's theme revolves around Fall Foliage, and as the leaves take on their golden hues and the air turns crisper, it marks the ideal season for cozy moments. So embrace the warmth of a snug sweater, and cherish the company of your loved ones amidst the captivating beauty of autumn while we bring you our interpretations of the challenge theme. If this theme sparks your creativity, join us in the fun! Don't forget to use the hashtag #sharingfallcards, as we can't wait to admire your creations. I hope you enjoy my submission to this challenge.
When this week’s theme was introduced I knew exactly what kind of card I wanted to make. I have been sitting on this Trinty Stamps Fabulous Foliage layered stencil set, featured left, for a while now and have been looking for the perfect opportunity to use it. This four-piece stencil set is very easy to use, so along with my ink-blending brushes and the Distress Oxide inks in the colors in the image below (right), I first colored my background and then carefully blended in the different colors using the various stencils layers until I had used them all. I then allowed the inks to dry thoroughly.
As I was working on the layers, and don’t get me wrong I love fall colors, I just got this feeling that this card need a bit more visual appeal. So to combat that feeling and add that missing appeal I decided that for the veins of the leaves, inside of stamping them all a boring shade of brown, I would use gold embossing powder. I first stamped all of the veins with clear embossing ink and then covered everything with an extra fine gold embossing powder from Wow!. I then heat set the powder with my heat tool and allowed it to cool. All I can say is that the idea was a winner as it really helped to draw the eye throughout the card.
The next step was to create the sentiment for the card. To accomplish this I turned to an old Love Nicole set I had in my collections that unfortunately I can’t remember the name of right now, see the image below left. I really liked the “Fall is in the Air” sentiment, as right now in my area it really is an appropriate message. To create my sentiment I used some green cardstock that was a different color from the green inks so that I could achieve a focal point for the card and then to tie it to the background panel I heat embossed it in the same manner as the veins of the leaves.
Lastly, it was time to assemble the final product. I first trimmed down the background panel to its final dimensions as well as a kraft-colored mat to reinforce the earth tones. I then adhered the background panel to the mat with double-sided tape and then the composite onto a pre-cut and folded A2 white card base. The finishing touch was to add the sentiment to the card background with some foam tape to give it some height.
I do hope you have enjoyed my submission and are inspired to craft along with us on this hop!
