Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge
Enjoy the Day
Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present to you my entry into the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge. The challenge prompt for this week is wonderfully open-ended—anything goes. However, with a multitude of creative ideas swirling in my mind, narrowing it down to a single concept proved to be quite the challenge. Nonetheless, after careful consideration, the decision was made to craft a captivating floral card inspired by the enchanting beauty of wild roses. To bring this vision to life, I delved into the realm of wild rose facts, discovering intriguing details that further fueled my creative inspiration.
I learned for instance that Wild roses have been steeped in symbolism for centuries. In Greek mythology, wild roses were associated with the goddess of love, Aphrodite, while in Roman mythology, they were linked to the goddess Venus. This connection cemented their association with love, beauty, and passion throughout history. I also learned that there are over 100 different types of these flowers in the genus Rosa and present themselves in many many different forms. I hope you enjoy my submission and maybe learned a little.
To create this card’s background I began with some of my premium watercolor paper, because you guessed it, I am going to watercolor another project. I first stamped out my wild rose image in black pigment ink utilizing the Waffle Flower Wild Rose set you see in the image on the left. This set was part of their 2022 Birth Month Flower - June collection, and the model number is 421071 if you want to find this set online for yourself.
Once I stamped out the image I used my watercolor marker in the colors shown also in the image on the left to carefully color in my wild rose as well as its stem and leaves. Since watercolor markers can be a bit tricky when it comes to shading, I experimented with yellows, oranges, reds, and greens to create layers of color. To see the areas in which this technique was employed look to the leaves and to the center of the rose petals. I then set it aside and waited for the image to dry.
After drying the next step was to add the sentiment, which you can see to the right, to the card background. The stamp set is the Waffle Flower Anemone set (420871). I chose the sentiment of “Enjoy the Day” as a way to have a non-genre-specific greeting card that I could send out when I felt that the recipient may just need a small pick me up.
After that ink dried I used my Waffle Flower Oval Nesting Dies (310334) to cut the background and the black cardstock I chose for the mat down to their final sizes, adhered them together, and then after rounding the corners of my white A2 card base, adhere everything to the card base. I would really suggest that if you don’t have the nesting oval dies that you consider them for a future purchase. This set comes in 17 different sizes making them very versatile when creating your cards.
The last step for this project was to add some dimension for visual appeal. To do this I attached some onyx colored flat back gemstones from my collection. The number of gemstones and their placement is intentionally done to create a natural draw to the viewer’s eye all along the card.
I hope you have found some inspiration in this card to create something unique of your own. Be sure to leave a comment below, even if it is just to say hello, I really like it when people say hello. Remember Crafting is Happiness!
