613 Avenue Create Inspirational Post
Anything Goes
Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present to you my October contribution post as part of the 613 Avenue Create design team. I'm super excited to be working alongside these talented crafters to bring you some fun challenges and creative prompts that will spark your imagination. If my work inspires you then head on over to the challenge blog and join us. You can find the link under the headline banner. I hope you enjoy.
The design inspiration for this card came from when I was out walking the craft room support dogs and happened to look down at some leaves that had fallen into my yard. The beautiful color of the leaves on top of my still green grass made such a stunning contrast that when I came back inside I set out to try and recreate it.
To begin I selected some white cardstock and Distress Oxide Mica Stain in the color called Specimen. Taking proper precautions due to its properties, I placed the cardstock into my splat box and sprayed the stain until it covered the cardstock. I absolutely am in love with the shimmer and shine that this product produces and have been purposely trying to find projects to use it on. Once I finished spraying the stain, I sprayed the sheet with some fixative and then ran over the whole sheet with my heat tool on low. I then set it aside to work on the next step which was to create the leaves.
For these, I turned to my Autumn Leaves die set, featured left, that I picked up from Scrapbook.com. I used all of the leaf variations and cut out a bunch of leaves to determine which I wanted to use the most. As I currently live in an area that has many different types of deciduous trees I decided that I would use a bit of them all. For the color of the leaves, I turned to another product that I have had quite a fascination with over the last few weeks, Lunar Paste. I utilized it in the colors Triple Berry, Slippery When Wet, Game Over, Gold Rush, and Later Gator to give my leaves their assortment of colors. Once they were dry I attached them all to the background panel.
The next step was to trim the background panel to its final dimensions as well as a kraft-colored mat to reinforce the nature theme and then adhere them together with double-sided tape. I then adhered the composite to a precut and folded A2 white card base with double-sided tape as well. Lastly, I added the sentiment, which I die cut from cardstock sprayed in the same mica stain and then mounted to the kraft cardstock cut using the corresponding shadow die. The final embellishment was to use a black pen to highlight the veins of the leaves.
